- Background Music - Once the holidays roll around, you’ll find stores playing Christmas music over the loud speakers and inevitably, you’ll end up either singing along or humming. You may find that hearing the background music puts you in a good mood and you slow down your shopping mission just a tad. That background music, while showing the store’s festive side, has an underlying purpose. Sure, the store owners love to see their customers walking around their stores singing, but they also like the fact that the customers will linger in their store longer than they normally would. When customers tend to spend more time in a store, they tend to spend more money in the store as well. That’s what store owners hope happens.
- Backing Tracks - Even if you are a professional musician, Getting a good session together can be a lot more difficult than it should be. As a singer, I have had to learn firsthand how temperamental and difficult to work with musicians can be. They will flake out on paying gigs, come in late, get moody at the last minute because of minor things – you name it, and I've seen it happen.
- Blues Brothers DVD - The Blues Brothers is a cult movie, a musical comedy that blends classic soul music, car chases and charismatic characters. There are many imitators but there's nothing to beat the real thing. Fans can collect Blues Brothers DVD versions and there are plenty to choose from.
- Classical Music Online - When our classical music radio station in Detroit closed down, I was absolutely devastated. Here I was, in a major city, and there was no way for me to listen to classic music on the radio in the car. Most cities had two classical stations at least, and at one point Detroit had as well. Don't get me wrong – public radio still played a lot of classical composers, but only during certain programs. Much of the time, I would have to bring my own CDs with me if I wanted to hear classical compositions.
- Music Production Software - I have been playing with music production software ever since I downloaded a trial version of Cool Edit way back in high school. It was kind of clunky, but I absolutely adored it. I suddenly had a powerful program in my hands the could do all kinds of musical things that I had never imagined possible, and there is little doubt that computer sound mixers can be very powerful. I could synthesize my own tones, give them different ambiences and effects, layer multiple tracks on top of each other, play things backwards – you name it. By the standards of today's best music production software, It wasn't very powerful, but at the time it absolutely blew me away.
- Online Sheet Music - There are many reasons why you may be looking for online sheet music. What you want to find is probably closer than you think, and you don’t have to go through an extensive search for this stuff when it can be rather hard to find. You may find sheet music in your local music store, but you are going to find the selection there to be very limited. Today, you can find almost any song you want no matter who the artist might be, or even how obscure the song might be. This is for those in bands of all types, and even for professional music instructors.
- Silent Violins - Electric violins are a pretty recent addition. Up until recently, buying violins for sale was always a matter of finding the most resonant, sonorous, and loud instrument there was. So called silent violins where exactly the opposite of what you would look for. Long after the invention of electric guitars, People in the classical music world still rejected the idea of the silent violin. Music was changing so quickly, and they were afraid or downright hostile towards the electric age. The silent violin seemed like one more incursion of technology where tradition had held sway for so long. No one wanted one outside of the realm of experimental music.
- Wedding DJ - Growing up seeing rock stars on TV, I got the wrong idea about music. Sure, I was passionate about playing music from the time I was little, but that wasn't what I was really all about. Every time I would pick up my guitar, my drumsticks, my bass, or any of the other instruments I was playing, I would picture myself rocking out in front of cheering millions. By the time I was 15, I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but even so I knew I would make it one day. After all, I was already playing shows in friend's basement, and had even had a paid gig or two. I never pictured spending my life as a wedding dj.
